No Raiders and not standing

Well last week's game was a heartbreaking shame, now Kiffen's out and Al is still making us crazy! I stayed in the football pool 4 whole weeks this year, but alas lost when Denver got completely stomped by the Chiefs, it was a small consolation that my other pick probably would have been Dallas and they didn't win either...there is always next year....It is a bye week for the Raiders, so the likely torture of watching the rest of this season's games won't begin for another week. :( so sad.

Ok, let's just hope they look better than they've looked during the pre-season! :)

I know, it is only the first game of the pre-season, but 18 - 6 never looked so sweet!

the extra large football game

At first, it was a little hard for me to get excited about a superbowl that did not include the Raiders, but I found reasons to support the teams that were going.

Seattle is near and dear to my heart, my Aunt and her family live there and I have visited many times. In fact, I was there visiting a few years ago when they demolished the old superdome, making way for the new one, which seems to have inspired the team.

And Pittsburg is a neighbor to the town where my Stepdad grew up, and he is passionate about the Steelers. My stepdad is a really cool guy, and there isn't much that he really gets excited about, so I was just excited for him.

So, I went into the game feeling like it would be nice if either team won, and it would be a little sad for the losing team. It was a decent game, and I was correct, it was good that the Steelers won and a little sad that Seattle didn't. But the real bummer, is how much controversy has been flying around since. I have seen many stories about how the rules need to change, that Seattle got robbed, that Pittsburg should feel a hollow victory, etc. Since I would have been happy either way, I feel impartial - yes there were some questionable calls, but I am not a referee and I don't have access to the video footage they do, so I have to trust them to do their best. It isn't good for anybody, to Monday morning referee. Instead, why not focus on how to make improvements going forward.

Like making sure the Raiders are at the Super Bowl next year - heh heh :)

Football: pools, fantasy, etc.

I just never was a big football fan. I liked watching baseball, at the ballpark. My Dad never really seemed to be a football fan, but then suddenly he was was, and my brother had been growing into one, and my StepDad liked it a lot but adored Basketball...

I moved last year back to my coastal college town, and found myself joining a football pool with my roommate. It gave us something to talk about when we went out and it became really fun to go out and watch a game somewhere and cheer with the other pleasantly buzzed folks in the bar; and the prospect of winning a little money wasn't so bad either. ;O)

So this year, when a co-worker and friend said they needed me to join the fantasy league, and it occurred to me that it could ultimately help me win the football pool...Of course I caved, and joined.

I find it somewhat surprising that I am now involved in 2 football related pastimes, that require the watching and study of football, which I am learning to enjoy, but still never really had a big desire for. Oh, and one more thing: like I really have time for this, too!! Well, a girl has to have a few pastimes right, oh wait, I do, about 100 of them that I am already not getting to! It really is fun to notice sometimes, what you find yourself unexpectedly and sort of out of character doing and then wondering where it will lead...

I need Kansas City to win today to stay in this years pool, last year I got eliminated on the first freakin game, I am really hoping to go all the way this year...go Chiefs, please!

I am at heart a Raiders fan, but this year is beginning to look at lot like last year, hang on to your helmets fans!
